In conjunction with the Carhartt WIP x 5boro NYC to Detroit collection, 5boro has released a video coda to the collaborative project. Shot by Chris Mulhern, the clip showcases the riding feats of the Carhartt WIP and 5boro teams in the stomping grounds of each respective brand: the former set against the urban decay backdrop of Detroit, the latter in bustling New York City. Like the collection itself, the video features artwork from Carhartt’s Pontus Alv and 5boro’s Mark Nardelli. Repping the Motor City and Carhartt are team riders Hjalte Halberg, Phil Zwijsen, Rob Smith, Pontus Alv and Bram De Cleen. On the Big Apple side, 5boro members making their mark are Jimmy McDonald, Dan Pensyl, Willy Akers, Luidgi Gaydu, Mark Nardelli and Tombo Colabraro. Check out the video following the click.

While Bob Marley’s classic and universally likable music has stood the test of time since his death in 1981, his family and others close to him have seldom opened up about his personal influence as a father or the atmosphere in Jamaica during his ascent to global fame. Now, Academy Award-winning director Kevin Macdonald wishes to tell this rarely illuminated story with Marley, which is set to premiere at the Berlin Film Festival and SXSW in March. It will be appearing in theaters as well as video-on-demand
on April 20.

Nick Gabaldon was a pioneer in American surf history as the first African American to challenge the California waves and bitter societal segregation of the early 1950s. His determination to challenge those boundaries and pursue the sport he’d quickly grown to love, drove him to paddle 12 miles north, along the coast to Malibu to surf. It was ultimately the place of his tragic and unexpected passing, but it was in his passion and pursuit of a dream that forever cemented his legacy in surfing lore. Nike Surfing will celebrate Nick’s memory by telling his story, in 12 Miles North – The Nick Gabaldon Story.

CEO of Icon, Johnathan Ward, gives us his overview of the drive behind his simple, yet obsessively detailed design philosophy. ICON automobiles are handcrafted in Los Angeles making use of all domestic suppliers – an element that creates an elevated but justified price point. Ward designed and built the first three pre-production prototypes for the Toyota FJ Cruiser, but went on to create a line of automobiles built on a basis of simplicity with each using only one computer to control engine efficiency – everything else is analog. ICON’s throwback style is beefed up with a ridiculous attention to aesthetic and utilitarian detail. The automobile’s sport panels are inspired by Bell & Ross , and TGIC polymer-based toughlan polyester coats that are approximately ten times more durable than stock paint. ICONs are built and priced upon ordering, and generally take six to eight months to complete.

Nursing a bum ankle, Shaun White had already pulled out of Slopestyle earlier this week, leaving many to wonder how he would fare in his signature event. However, as only he can do, White made his mark at Winter X Games Aspen Men’s Snowboard SuperPipe, winning gold and effectively solidifying a five-time repeat with a score of 94.00 on his very first run of the night. White could have mailed in his final run and taken a victory lap, but instead threw down the single greatest slew of tricks in Winter X Games history. Starting off the run with a towering 18-ft backside air, White stuck a frontside double cork 1080, a Cab double cork 1080, a frontside stalefish 540, a double McTwist 1260, and his signature frontside double cork 1260 before all was said and done, garnering the first perfect score of 100 in the history of Winter X.

Set on an island off the coast of New England in the summer of 1965, Moonrise Kingdom tells the story of two twelve-year-olds who fall in love, make a secret pact, and run away together into the wilderness. As various authorities try to hunt them down, a violent storm is brewing off-shore -- and the peaceful island community is turned upside down in more ways than anyone can handle. Bruce Willis plays the local sheriff. Edward Norton is a Khaki Scout troop leader. Bill Murray and Frances McDormand portray the young girl's parents. The cast also includes Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman, and Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward as the boy and girl. Directed by Anderson, and co-written with Roman Coppola. In theaters: May 25th, 2012.

For the always lighthearted Mayer Hawthorne and his latest set of visuals, the LA-based musician enlists the services of animatronic band The Rock-afire Explosion to highlight the music video. The aesthetics feature Hawthorne seemingly on a date with a pair of lovely ladies, as they enjoy their time at a pizza parlor. The robotic band provides for the feel-good musical backdrop, while towards the end of the segment, Hawthorne himself hops on stage to perform with his furry friends. “Dreaming” is featured on the multi-talented artist’s most recent EP How Do You Do. v

In one of the more clever ad spots in recent memory, Native presents An Inaccurate Look at the Making of a Fitzsimmons, a Wes Anderson-esque imagining of what goes into shoe manufacturing. The result is a whimsical interpretation, where buried treasure is unearthed, bananas are found and mythical shoes are created. The Native team deserves a ton of credit for thinking outside of the box on this one. Check it out.

Earlier this month, soul singer Mayer Hawthorne campaigned in the Rolling Stone studio to replace Nickelback as the halftime performer for the big Detroit Lions home game on Thanksgiving Day after many loyal Lions fans attempted to get the rockers kicked off the bill. Nickelback is keeping the gig after all, but that's not going to stop Hawthorne from celebrating Thanksgiving – and the Lions – in style on Thursday. In this clip, the Detroit native announces that he'll be broadcasting his own halftime show from his parents' house, with his own dad on bass. "I'm gonna play a short medley of favorites and some songs especially for Detroit," says Hawthorne. "The band will be all local musicians from Detroit. We'll be watching the game upstairs!"
