Kanye West x Jay-Z “Otis” (Feat. Otis Redding)

The latest leak from Kanye West x Jay-Z “Watch The Throne” comes in the form of “Otis,” the name being a nod to the Otis Redding sample “Try A Little Tenderness” the song is built upon. This is Hip-Hop. “Watch The Throne” is available digitally on August 1, while the physical versions hits shelves on August 5.  It funny that this track is called Otis and features the Otis redding sample because for a couple of weeks I have been listening to this Otis Redding beat tape by Jinesis.  Go download it right away.  As well as download this track from two of the greatest in the game!

Song of the Day Fonzworth Bentley "Venice Beaches"

I'll always rep Venice Beach!  I just downloaded Fonzworth Bentley's long awaited mixtape C.O.L.O.U.R.S and I suggest if you haven't done it that you go do it now.  Real smooth melodic stuff with some club bangers as well and a lot of ATL steeze!  This first person music video for his song Venice Beaches is pretty cool as well!

Song of the Day Xaphoon Jones "Aretha Franklin One Step Ahead (Empire State Riddim)"

I have been in love with Aretha Franklin's One Step Ahead ever since I first heard it used as a sample around the age of 12 on Mos Def's Miss Fat Booty.  This new Mashup of it with the Empire State of Mind drums off of Xaphoon Jones's new mixtape is incredible! I have been listening to it on repeat for awhile now!

Song of the Day Big K.R.I.T "The Vent"

I could pick six or seven songs off this mixtape to be songs of the day and just might end up doing that.  But I have been listening to this one a lot during this rainy weather and it is really good.  I really like everything he has to say lyrically.

It's us against them and it's just you and me
Trying to take heed of what I say in my songs
Forgive me if I ever ever stirred you wrong
Most people stop for signs but I've driven through it
If it don't touch my soul than I can't listen to it
The radio don't play the shit I used to love
Or maybe I am just growing up
I never seen a star on a red rug
If I wanna see stars I just look above
To the heavens

I know you've been down so long
So I'll be stronger for you
I know you've been down so long
Cause I've been down too
Yes I understand what you are going through
Yes I understand cause I am going through it too
I pray that you find your way and all things old become new
I pray that you find your way
For my sake cause I am lost too
Yes I understand what you are going through
Yes I understand cause I am going through it too

Big K.R.I.T "Return of 4eva"

Damn Big K.R.I.T is the truth! One of my homeboys has been telling me to listen to him now for awhile and he was right! He just dropped this free album today.  I really can't believe that he is giving this away for free, but I guess the music industry is working on this word of mouth thing, and a lot of artist wait awhile before they drop an actual LP. If you are a fan of southern hip-hop like Outkast than I suggest you go cop this immediately!

Mick Boogie – ’93 TIL’ INFINITY Mixtape

I have to say that I am not totally into the ever growing fascination with nintie’s culture but some things from it are awesome. Like the hip-hop from the nintie's! The current re-release of NBA Jam gave Mick Boogie the influence to put out a mixtape featuring some of his favorite old school remixes. Tracks from Das EFX, Nice Smooth, Naughty By Nature, Erick Sermon, De La Soul and countless other timeless acts.

J. Period & Black Thought - Live Mixtape (Illadelph Edition) EP

J.Period & Black Thought Live Mixtape (Illadelph Edition) EP for free download (presented by Truelements + Lyrics to Go). The EP was recorded live on stage during their September 26th performance , and features 30 minutes of Live J.Period remixes while Black Thought eats up every beat that J puts on. Thought rhymes over beats from Foxy Brown, Damian Marley, dead prez, Jay-Z, Snoop, Biggie, Drake, and more. "Put him over any beat, I don’t care what beat […] he can hold his own,” says J. Period of Black Thought. And the respect is mutual, “I came to do this just on the strength of J. Period saying ‘I’m trying to do this joint.’ […] I appreciate J. Period’s hustle. He’s dedicated and he goes in. Once he has a vision, he’s gonna see it through to fruition.” Also included in the download is the above video, which features behind the scenes footage from the show (produced by The Manifesto), interviews with J Period & BT, and HD footage of the Live Mixtape in action.

DJ Automatic Presents: Common - Theater of The Mind [MixTale]

I am truly grateful for projects like this one. As a HUGE fan of the art form that is music (wether it be Hip-Hop, Rock, or Reggae) I love to get to the roots behind it. There is no better place to learn about an artist or their work then from that actual artist. DJ Automatic has put together a series of releases that he calls MixTales, with the latest one featuring Common. If you are a fan of Hip-Hop or music in general you need to listen to Common, he is one of my favorite artist! I can always put on a Common track and have it evoke a different feeling in me---positivity or reminiscence or strength. Anyways, this is not a mixtape its a mixtale i'll let DJ Automatic explain: "While listening to the limited edition of Michael Jackson's Thriller album, which features interviews with some of the legendary people he had worked with over the years like Quincy Jones and Rod Temperton, DJ and music afficianado, Merritt Reiland aka DJ Automatic (Shadyville/Vinyl Pushers DJ's) I got the idea to make mixtapes with established artists that let them tell the story behind their career, catalog and inspirations, interspersed with blends of their music chronologically, and the MixTale was born...

Diary of An ATL Brave!

Go All Day

Nike 6.0 BMX rider Nigel Sylvester has teamed up with Gatorade to make a video which follows New York City-based Sylvester around for an entire day and takes the audience on a ride for a day in life of Nigel Sylvester. The three-part series starts at night, as Sylvester and his boys cruise through downtown New York City, and Sylvester left for a few hours to finish up a photo shoot at Nike Sportswear 21 Mercer. After some adrenaline rushed tricks on bikes, Sylvester and his buddies speed to BOB on the Lower East Side and parties it up till the morning. This def looks like the good life! I love the song straight ATLien music, I just heard about Donnis but he's dope...I wish I had a bike here in Cali!
