I'll preface this by saying I am not sure how many people follow my blog or even read anything I write on here. In the end it is all for me anyways... With that being said it has been a really long time since I have done any actual blogging and/or writing here. But I feel like I just need to say some stuff and use this as an outlet right now like I use to.
Last night I went to the Mayer Hawthorne show with two of my best and oldest friends. Sometimes it is crazy to me how long we have been friends, and how old we have become. While at the same time I still see us as those kids growing up together. I can truly see how time after college starts to fly by. You start to live for your weekends and things just move. I had this realization back in May right out of school, and last night I happened again. I just felt life, you know real life-the real world if you will. It just seems like when I am doing my thing that I am on my schedule no thought of going back to school or the work I need to do just living. I have always looked up to those older than me and wanted to be them, like most of us do. It is funny because we all continue to chase that idea and still think of ourselves as young. I love the moments when I realize that I am there now at that point. To live in the present is key to all things. These are the good times, the glory years. Life is quick and youth is fleeting, it is important to do what you want and to enjoy it.
Recently things have been really crazy and hectic(working 12 hr days and 60 hour weeks chasing my dreams!) It is a daily grind and really can wear you down at times. But I am happy paying my dues and making strides. I am still shocked sometimes that I am actually getting to work in the industry I have wanted to work in since I was a child. I heard a great quote the other day that said "People say good things come to those who wait. The truth is good things come to those who work!" So I work and I work hard to make my dreams come true.
Last night at the show I was at a place that holds a lot on memories and significance in my life. While I was enjoying my night and really soaking up the present moment and looking forward to this new memory. A lyric to the David Gray song Babylon popped into my head. It really took my out of the present and made me think of the past. Then on the car ride home after my 60+ hour work week Babylon shuffled up. The lyrics really touched me. It had me thinking the whole ride home and pretty much was a catalyst to me writing this tonight.
I can see so many things in my life falling into place and I am really looking forward to my future. But even with all the career success and opportunity I still feel like something or someone is missing.
I guess when it comes down to it...
I miss you.
Friday night I'm going nowhere
All the lights are changing green to red
Turning over TV stations
Situations running through my head
Well looking back through time
You know it's clear that I've been blind
I've been a fool
To ever open up my heart
To all that jealousy, that bitterness, that ridicule
Saturday I'm running wild
And all the lights are changing red to green
Moving through the crowd I'm pushing
Chemicals all rushing through my bloodstream
Only wish that you were here
You know I'm seeing it so clear
I've been afraid
To tell you how I really feel
Admit to some of those bad mistakes I've made
If you want it
Come and get it
Crying out loud
The love that I was
Giving you was
Never in doubt
Let go your heart
Let go your head
And feel it now
Babylon, Babylon
Sunday all the lights of London
Shining , Sky is fading red to blue
I'm kicking through the Autumn leaves
And wondering where it is you might be going to
Turning back for home
You know I'm feeling so alone
I can't believe
Climbing on the stair
I turn around to see you smiling there
In front of me
If you want it
Come and get it
Crying out loud
The love that I was
Giving you was
Never in doubt
And feel it now
Let go your heart
Let go your head
And feel it now
Let go your heart
Let go your head
And feel it now

Song of the Day Oddisee feat. Toine "Different Now"
A friend of mine put me onto this video. All I can say is it is a must watch if you are a hip-hop head. Fresh beats legit lyrics and flow. The video is chill and low key and still fly. Its funny I just got back from D.C. and I just find it interesting that these guys are from there I'm guess.

Going back to Cali strictly for the weather, Women, and the...SB 2011
Just got back from Los Angeles yesterday. It felt really good to be back in the city of Angles, but sometimes I still do not know if its the place I should be at. All in all it was a successful trip: handled some business, handled more fun, got to go on the set of one of my favorite shows (Community), ate at some of my favorite spots, went to some new places, made some new friends, saw some old ones, caught the good vibes of the California Soul.
Places: Los Angeles, LACMA, Santa Monica, Hollywood, USC, Pepperdine, UCLA, Malibu, Griffith Observatory.

Review: Toro Y Moi at the 40 Watt
Toro Y Moi put on a good show last night at the 40 Watt, even though he was wearing a South Carolina shirt in the Classic City...I definitely find his sound refreshing the funk of Jamiroquai and the smooth melodic tones of The Beach Boys. It is not hard to see that he is on the verge of blowing up...check him out.

Sunny Sunday Shuffle Mix
Today wasn't the warmest day in Athens but at least it was sunny after a week of rain and clouds. Got a little Big City brunch to top off last nights shenanigans and here is a taste of what I listened to on the ride...

Quinn Silvernale by Hannibal Matthews
I was told to check out this cool Atlanta photographer Hannibal Matthews after he took some pictures of a friend of mine Quinn Silvernale a couple of weeks ago. Well here is the photo and its pretty damn cool. Its great to see someone who works as hard as Quinn at his passion getting more press and coverage. My eye for graphic design and it as an art form has been on the raise for the past couple of years(for given reasons). Props to Sidney Watters for his graphic art right here...check out more on his website. Hannibal definitely has a good eye check out some of his hip-hop and other artist photos HERE.

Real Soulful Dude: Aloe Blacc
Last week I had the pleasure of seeing Aloe Blacc live at the Masquerade in ATL! I had first heard about the concert about a month back and am really glad I went. After the show Aloe walked right to the back of the room and started talking to his fans and signing autographs. I had to pick up a copy of his new album Good Things for him to sign! As for the show in general Aloe Blacc is an extremely talented soul artist and one of the best performers I've seen in a really long time. In the video below he does one of my favorite songs off the album You Make Me Smile at Schubas in Chicago. From the look of the video Schubas is packed out. On the flip side the Masquerade was damn near empty for him, which made me I feel really bad, I guess the people down here in the "A" aren't up on some GOOD Music! Aloe gives an interview with Okayplayer TV to talk about his "brand new old soul" style, future Emanon music (Aloe x Exile his hip-hop work), and more. If your musical taste are like mine I suggest checking him out you won't be disappointed. I have a feeling he is going to be the next big thing!
Happy Hanukkah!
Today is the first night of Hanukkah, I can't believe how early it is starting this year. Finals haven't even began. Anyways a Happy Hanukkah to all my Jewish brothers and sisters. This year the one and only Matisyahu drops a new Hanukkah song entitled “Miracle”! He plans to unveil it live at this year’s Festival of Light shows, which kick off this Monday at Brooklyn Bowl in NYC and continue through the end of the holiday. I have seen Matis 5 times in 4 different states and one day soon hope to make it to his annual Festival of Lights concerts in NYC! I wish I was in LA for the open extra call on the music video for "Miracle" it would've been so badass...
Here is what Matis had to say about his new song:
“I wanted to give the Jewish kids something to be proud of. We've got Adam Sandler's song, which is hilarious, but I wanted to try to get across some of the depth and spirituality inherent in the holiday in a fun, celebratory song.”

With the goal of creating one of the most complex pop collage albums ever, Girl Talk literally just finished his fifth album which is described as being the most fully realized and evolved manifestation of his music yet. Spending more time on this project than any other release, the album features 373 different samples and is said to be his most densely layered and meticulously composed musical statement to date.
