Song of the Day Mayer Hawthorne "Dreaming"

For the always lighthearted Mayer Hawthorne and his latest set of visuals, the LA-based musician enlists the services of animatronic band The Rock-afire Explosion to highlight the music video. The aesthetics feature Hawthorne seemingly on a date with a pair of lovely ladies, as they enjoy their time at a pizza parlor. The robotic band provides for the feel-good musical backdrop, while towards the end of the segment, Hawthorne himself hops on stage to perform with his furry friends. “Dreaming” is featured on the multi-talented artist’s most recent EP How Do You Do. v

Thoughts of the Day/Song of the Day David Gray Babylon

I'll preface this by saying I am not sure how many people follow my blog or even read anything I write on here.  In the end it is all for me anyways...  With that being said it has been a really long time since I have done any actual blogging and/or writing here. But I feel like I just need to say some stuff and use this as an outlet right now like I use to.

Last night I went to the Mayer Hawthorne show with two of my best and oldest friends.  Sometimes it is crazy to me how long we have been friends, and how old we have become.  While at the same time I still see us as those kids growing up together.  I can truly see how time after college starts to fly by.  You start to live for your weekends and things just move.  I had this realization back in May right out of school, and last night I happened again.  I just felt life, you know real life-the real world if you will.  It just seems like when I am doing my thing that I am on my schedule no thought of going back to school or the work I need to do just living.  I have always looked up to those older than me and wanted to be them, like most of us do.  It is funny because we all continue to chase that idea and still think of ourselves as young.  I love the moments when I realize that I am there now at that point.  To live in the present is key to all things.  These are the good times, the glory years.  Life is quick and youth is fleeting, it is important to do what you want and to enjoy it.

Recently things have been really crazy and hectic(working 12 hr days and 60 hour weeks chasing my dreams!)  It is a daily grind and really can wear you down at times.  But I am happy paying my dues and making strides.  I am still shocked sometimes that I am actually getting to work in the industry I have wanted to work in since I was a child.  I heard a great quote the other day that said "People say good things come to those who wait.  The truth is good things come to those who work!"  So I work and I work hard to make my dreams come true.

Last night at the show I was at a place that holds a lot on memories and significance in my life.  While I was enjoying my night and really soaking up the present moment and looking forward to this new memory.  A lyric to the David Gray song Babylon popped into my head.  It really took my out of the present and made me think of the past.  Then on the car ride home after my 60+ hour work week Babylon shuffled up. The lyrics really touched me.  It had me thinking the whole ride home and pretty much was a catalyst to me writing this tonight.

I can see so many things in my life falling into place and I am really looking forward to my future.  But even with all the career success and opportunity I still feel like something or someone is missing.

I guess when it comes down to it...

I miss you.

Friday night I'm going nowhere
All the lights are changing green to red
Turning over TV stations
Situations running through my head
Well looking back through time
You know it's clear that I've been blind
I've been a fool
To ever open up my heart
To all that jealousy, that bitterness, that ridicule

Saturday I'm running wild
And all the lights are changing red to green
Moving through the crowd I'm pushing
Chemicals all rushing through my bloodstream
Only wish that you were here
You know I'm seeing it so clear
I've been afraid
To tell you how I really feel
Admit to some of those bad mistakes I've made

 If you want it
Come and get it
Crying out loud
The love that I was
Giving you was
Never in doubt
Let go your heart
Let go your head
And feel it now

Babylon, Babylon

Sunday all the lights of London
Shining , Sky is fading red to blue
I'm kicking through the Autumn leaves
And wondering where it is you might be going to
Turning back for home
You know I'm feeling so alone
I can't believe
Climbing on the stair
I turn around to see you smiling there
In front of me

If you want it
Come and get it
Crying out loud
The love that I was
Giving you was
Never in doubt
And feel it now
Let go your heart
Let go your head
And feel it now
Let go your heart
Let go your head
And feel it now

Song of The Day Mayer Hawthorne "A Strange Hawthorne"

Trying to go see Mayer tonight, he puts on such a great show I really hope I can make it! This is more of a mellow song but homie got it right with this one the lyrics kill it for me.

We took the long and staedy road
And from the start you had a heart of gold
You broke the mold
I never thought you would decide
The grass was greener on the other side
Of love's divide

You were everything that I wanted and more
Now we can't go back where we started
We'll never be like before

Darling me and you, we had a strange arrangement
But you broke all the rules
And I'm through playing the fool for love
Darling yes it's true, we had a grand engagement
But I can't stand by, while you break my heart in two
Oooh, I've got to be a man
Baby I've got to take a stand, so

So now we've gone our seperate ways
But in my heart I feel the burning flames
Of love's remains
I'll have to find somebody new
But all who dare will be compared to you
What can I do

You were everything that I dreamed I would find
Now we can't go back where we started

Kanye West x Jay-Z “Otis” (Feat. Otis Redding)

The latest leak from Kanye West x Jay-Z “Watch The Throne” comes in the form of “Otis,” the name being a nod to the Otis Redding sample “Try A Little Tenderness” the song is built upon. This is Hip-Hop. “Watch The Throne” is available digitally on August 1, while the physical versions hits shelves on August 5.  It funny that this track is called Otis and features the Otis redding sample because for a couple of weeks I have been listening to this Otis Redding beat tape by Jinesis.  Go download it right away.  As well as download this track from two of the greatest in the game!

Song of the Day Oddisee feat. Toine "Different Now"

A friend of mine put me onto this video.  All I can say is it is a must watch if you are a hip-hop head.  Fresh beats legit lyrics and flow.  The video is chill and low key and still fly.  Its funny I just got back from D.C. and I just find it interesting that these guys are from there I'm guess.

MICK BOOGIE & DJ JAZZY JEFF – SUMMERTIME 2

You don't even know how stoked I am for this! Just in time for your 4th of July Mick Boogie and Jazzy Jeff drop the follow up to their memorable, UNDRCRWN presented, summertime mix from last year.  I can't not tell you how many times I listened to last years mix.  Probably every day driving to work in Cali,  I even listened to it today as a matter of fact!  If you want some good summer music than go download right now!  DOWNLOAD!

Song of the Day Mayer Hawthorne "A Long Time"

Its funny I was just saying the other day how much I want Mayer to put out new music so I am happy to say we might not have that much more time to wait.   Reports say his new record will be out in the fall. After going the indie route for a few years, Mayer Hawthorne has decided to up the ante regarding his career by signing with Universal Republic. Thus, the major label will release his sophomore effort How Do You Do that follows up to his acclaimed debut A Strange Arrangement. Most recently, the crooner released his Impressions EP for free, which featured six cover tracks.  You can now listen to How Do You Do's alleged first single, "A Long Time," below. Enjoy!

Happy 40th Birthday Tupac Shakur!

Tupac Amaru Shakur

(June 16, 1971 - September 13, 1996)

His music has touched the lives of many. He spoke like a modern prophet for his generation; and today on what would have been Tupac Shakur’s 40th birthday we are still celebrating his life, music, and legacy! People who weren’t even alive to witness Tupac’s talent at its all time high pay homage and respect to Great taken far too soon. “They say the great die young” Not to mention he made some of the best hip-hop music video's of the 90's and perhaps all time...

Happy 40th Birthday Tupac Shakur!

Here are my top 10 Tupac songs...

Song of the Day BIg Sean "I Do It"

I've been on Big Sean since day one. But at the moment it is safe to say that hee is starting to really blow up(if you follow hip-hop closely). He has a lot of features on big acts and has been dropping a bunch of free music. The way I see it, his first album is about to drop so I am sure he is just getting his marketing scheme down. Anyways, from time to time I question some of his choices and even him as a MC. But then he goes and puts out a track like this. I am sure if you have been watching the NBA post season then you have seen the Derrick Rose commercial that has this song in the background. Why not it has a nice beat, but the verses are fresh to death as well! Also I have to say I dig Big Sean's marketing because he makes fresh videos. They are always a simple concepts with pretty simple special FX that make the videos look incredible!

Song of the Day Cee Lo Green "Fool For You"

What?! That real, that deep, that burning, that amazing unconditional, inseparable love
That feel like forever, that always emotional but still exceptional love
Can't nobody tell me nothing it is what it is
And any mistake you make I, I just may forgive
Right now, right now at this very moment I still love her like I loved her then
I love her in and out and up and down and 'round and 'round and over and over again
So rare they swear that you just don't exist
And It's only one person I can think of that makes me feel like this
And I'm a fool, such a fool for you!

What?! That deep, that sweet, that something That wet that fire, that fall for stuff
That up and that down, that front and that back, baby I can't seem to get enough
